VMware vCenter Server Code Execution (CVE-2022-31680)



Application Details

VMware vCenter is an advanced server management software that provides a centralized platform for controlling vSphere environments, for visibility across hybrid clouds.


Vulnerability

VMware vCenter Server could allow a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by an unsafe deserialization in the PSC (Platform services controller).


Identification

By sending specially crafted request, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the underlying operating system.

Detection

By turning this into a traffic file and matching rule, we are able to detect attempts to execute arbitrary code on the underlying operating system.
